Genre: Psychological Thriller
Five stars: * * * * *
What a book! My first five star read of the year and therefore, easily my favourite of 2021 so far. I have no idea how I'd never heard of Colleen Hoover before reading this book but I'll be sure to read more of her work. She's published this book independently and it's made waves across social media. I can see why! The writing made me feel scared, then tense, then anxious, concern, confusion and massive amounts of intrigue. Cliché, but I really couldn't put it down!

Synopsis
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

"And that's what love at first sight is. It isn't really love at first sight until you have been with the person long enough for it to become love at first sight."
My thoughts
Where can I even start with this book? It's a great premise, it's written fantastically. It has a great plot, great twists, great end. None of which I saw coming. At times my heart was literally beating out of my chest and other times, I was basking in the emerging love story. The plot is woven together really nicely and this and the characters are believable. Sometimes with psychological thrillers, the plot is a little far-fetched but here, it is within the realms of possibility somehow and of course, this adds to the tension.
The story is narrated through Hannah's perspective and Verity's. Two women who have never really engaged with each other. Yet, there's a tension that builds up and the way the story culminates is...well, you'll have to read it.
Verity's husband, Jeremy, is hard to discern and in some ways, I felt like I never really got a handle on him and his intentions. Sometimes sincere, sometimes he felt anything but. Again though...the ending. Crickey. Please read this book and we can talk more!
"I moved to this city to be invisible but I'm certainly not impenetrable."
